Dhuskun Basic School, located in Tripurasundari Rural Municipality -3, has made significant progress in teaching learning activities after the capacity building of teachers and school construction. Three years before the 2015 earthquakes, this school was not in proper shape. The small stone and mud building had an unhygienic latrine, small playground and poor drinking water facilities. And the teaching method was largely traditional. Teachers followed traditional rote teaching method.

Then in 2012, Gramin Mahila Srijanshil Pariwar (GMSP) in partnership with Child Fund Japan l implemented Education for Hope project in Tripurasundari Rural Municipality. Dhuskun Basic School was one of the schools supported by the project, designed for addressing the needs and challenges of schools. After the project intervention, the school started to improve education quality. Just then, earthquakes in 2015 destroyed the school completely.

With the request of the community people and the parents, Gramin Mahila Srijanshil Pariwar worked for school reconstruction in close coordination with the School Management Committee (SMC) and community. Now the new school building has been constructed in place of the old. The school consists of 11 organized classrooms, six toilets, clean drinking water facility, organized library, well-equipped laboratory with all types of equipment, furniture (desks, chairs, carpets) and a playground.

Moreover, teachers, SMC members, Parents Teachers Association (PTA) and students were also capacitated to perform their roles in an effective way. Teachers were also trained on various latest teaching and learning methods, students were mobilized through Child Club, and SMC and PTA members were capacitated on development and management of School Improvement Plan.

These initiatives have paid off. During the recent monitoring visit by Social Welfare Council, these efforts were widely appreciated by the Council, Rural Municipality officials and stakeholders of the district. The school has become a role model and is providing quality education for social change. There is no child out of school at the moment.
Krishna Bahadur Karki, chairperson of School Management Committee (SMC) says, "We are happy and satisfied. Our school has become an example in this area. And this has been possible because of joint efforts."
